June 21 Fete de la Musique-World Music Day

Each year over 1,000 cities throw citywide music celebrations around the summer solstice. It started 40+ years ago in France, when the French Ministry of Culture imagined a day where free, live music would be everywhere: street corners and parks, rooftops and gardens, storefronts, and mountaintops. Unlike a typical music festival, anyone and everyone would be invited to join and play music and host performances. It’s called Fête de la Musique.

Georgetown Heritage, along with the Georgetown Business Improvement District and the Embassy of France-Villa Albertine, are partnering to host the second annual Fête de la Musique – World Music Day on Saturday, June 21. 40+ musical acts will perform in dozens of locations throughout Georgetown (3 pm – 7 pm), or at one of several stages at the French Embassy’s La Maison Française. (6 pm – 10 pm). Genres include R&B, Americana, jazz, bluegrass, spoken word, and rock.

Our call for musicians is open now through May 16; apply here! The final musical lineup and map will be published in June.
