Georgetown Heritage is celebrating our beloved C&O Canal with a family-friendly day of festivities in the Mule Yard and onboard the docked canal boat.

When: Sunday, October 19th 11 am – 2 pm

Where:  The Mule Yard and the Canal Boat (C&O Canal and Thomas Jefferson Street NW)

Who Will Be There: Young families from Georgetown and across DC


Canal Day Activities

  • Live Bluegrass music from Hollertown all day in the Mule Yard

  • Lawn games all day in the Mule Yard

  • Canal Boat Regatta all day at Lock 3: assemble and decorate a model boat and test it out in our mini “canal”

  • NPS Junior Ranger program all day at Lock 3

  • Meet Lucy the Donkey and Kismet the Mule all day at the Canal Boat*

  • Kids Music on the Canal Boat with Jam with Jamie at 11 am

  • Puppet show on the Canal Boat at 12 noon

  • Story time on the Canal Boat at 1 pm featuring Council Member Brooke Pinto

  • Plus treats from your favorite Georgetown restaurants, and all the fall family fun

*No, these aren’t the mules who pull the canal boat. Our equine friends are visiting from Middleburg!
